Aquality brings you the Phase Change Cooling Vest Line. Ice can be uncomfortably cold when placed against the skin: water is relatively heavy and requires temperatures below 32 degrees Fahrenheit in order to solidify; once frozen, ice is rigid, collects condensation and only lasts a short period of time. Aquality has overcome these deficiencies by utilizing a powerful new cooling medium called PHASE CHANGE MATERIAL!
How Does it Work?
Phase Change Materials (PCM) release long lasting, temperature specific, cooling energy that can be used in a variety of applications. Our production process mechanically seals phase-change material (PCM) inside durable polyurethane plastic, creating inserts in a variety of custom configurations. Similar to ice, the PCM 'melts' to a liquid state as it absorbs heat, but at a cooling temperature comfortably above than of freezing water (32F/0C) to ensure that the user doesn't get frostbite. This property also allows the PCM to be recharged in icewater or other cool fluid (something that can't be done with icepacks). In order to address a wide variety of cooling needs, we offer specific customized cooling temperatures ranging from 40F/4C up to 65F/18C to provide cool comfort for a variety of high- and extreme-heat stress applications.
Phase change cooling vests are specifically designed to provide comfort and heat stress protection to personnel who wear protective clothing with minimal air circulation, such as hunting vests, HazMat Suits, Protective Coveralls, Mascot Costumes, etc. where evaporative cooling solutions would not work effectively. The performance of the PCM material is unaffected by conditions of high humidity.
Duration
Phase change vests come with a single set of removable inserts, and stay at a cool 58F (14C) for up to 3 hours. The cooling duration can be doubled up to 6 hours by placing two inserts in each pocket (this will require purchase of the optional set of spare inserts; see below).
Inserts recharge quickly (less than 30 minutes) in icewater, and are returned to the vest pockets for another 3 hours of cooling. If Spare inserts are used, these can be recharged quickly and swapped out for currently used inserts in an endless cycle so users can enjoy all-day, non-stop cooling action.
Weight
When deployed with a single set of inserts, the Phase Change Cooling Vests weigh approximately 5 lbs. The weight is virtually unnoticeable, as it distributed evenly over the torso via a contoured design and snug fit.
